Now that Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield and multiple other star quarterbacks are in the NFL, who will take the college spotlight in 2018? Names like Will Grier, Jake Browning, Trace McSorley and Drew Lock are the popular answers. Call me crazy but, I think 2018’s best QB won’t be coming from that group of guys, but rather out of Arizona. Khalil Tate will take the college football world by storm in 2018.
In 2017, Tate quietly dominated the Pac 12. Passing for 1200+ yards, rushing for 1300+ yards and totaling 21 touchdowns for the Wildcats, he tore his opponents apart. Yet, he still found himself in the shadow of Darnold, Rosen, Browning and even Luke Falk. Believe it or not, the Pac 12 was arguably the best conference QB wise in 2017. Arizona’s hidden gem has yet to be discovered by most college football fans. Khalil Tate has the opportunity to truly take over not just the Pac 12, but the entire nation.
You can say what you want about Kevin Sumlin as a head coach, but there is no doubt that he is an upgrade from Rich Rodriguez. Sumlin brings an up-tempo offense to an Arizona team that is fully capable of adapting to. He also already proven he can develop quarterbacks. The Heisman winning kind. I believe Kevin Sumlin could really get Arizona in the right direction and with Khalil Tate running the offense, it will happen much quicker than expected.
Entering his junior year, Tate has the potential to have a monster 2018 season. After all, he’s only getting better. Tate and the Wildcats open their season at home September 1st, against BYU.
